                                                      Caroline Lupardo

Caroline is currently a student at the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago, and a dedicated vegan. Her work often incorporates text, collage, and social commentary. She works primarily in Pen and Ink, but she uses charcoal, ebony, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and other mediums as well. Depression, mental illness, racism, war, animal cruelty, pain, repression, spirituality, love, determination, and literature are re-occuring themes in many of her pieces. In the past year, Caroline’s work has been featured in the Heckscher Museum’s Best of Long Island Exhibit, as well as displayed in Walt Whitman’s Birthplace.

Art heals. Throughout a seven year struggle with her illness, Caroline has used art as a means of recovery. When hospitalized for over three weeks in 2010, she was virtually bed-ridden. During this time, her relationship with art evolved. Art was not longer simply a hobby. It became a way to channel the pain and sadness inside, and create something beautiful. Ever since, Caroline has looked for ways to reach out to others who are going through difficult times, and hopes to potentially become an art therapist, or discover other ways to promote healing and wellness through art.
